For the better part of a decade, Nike Basketball has carried on with a Big Three of sorts. A trio of NBA superstars — Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant — who have their own signature shoes. Today it becomes a quartet, with the unveiling of the Nike Kyrie 1, the first signature model of Cavs star Kyrie Irving.
Engineered to the precise, unique specifications of Irving’s versatile skill set, the Kyrie 1 is the result of a designer dream team, as Leo Chang took the lead, with contributions from Jason Petrie and Peter Fogg. nike roshes for sale nz Chang is of course known as the designer on Kevin Durant’s signature series, Petrie has designed the last several LeBron models, and Fogg, a senior designer for Nike Basketball, has created a generation of iconic models, stretching all the way back to some of the best ACG shoes of the 1990s, including the Terra Humara, Minot and Terra Sertig.
Despite Irving’s truly unique game, months of testing and feedback were able to target specific objectives his shoe would need to meet. First and foremost was pinpoint responsiveness. Kyrie is able to stop on a dime, cheap roshe run for womens or change direction at full speed, so he needs a shoe that can do likewise. That was accomplished through a Zoom Air unit placed in the forefoot, promising not just responsiveness, but cushioning and impact-protection, all the more so thanks to Phylon foam under the heel.
Next, the point guard’s need for dynamic grip was addressed, as Chang & co. added 360-degree dynamic traction to the shoe’s outsole and sidewalls, promising maximal footing at every given moment. The rubber composition also offers enhanced durability on a number of surfaces.
Third, Irving’s cuts and top-end speed require an added level of stability and support, so Hyperfuse was integrated into the upper’s construction. The materials itself delivers superlative lockdown, while the next layer, an open mesh build, is as light and breathable as possible.
